Effects of the Nd:YAG Laser in HS as a non-invasive treatment modality.

Monday, April 30, 2007

The Henry Ford Hospital's Dermatology Department in Detroit has extended an invitation to Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS) patients to participate in a clinical study for a new treatment of HS.

The Henry Ford dermatology team has had success with the use of Nd:YAG laser on similar inflammatory disorders of hair follicles. As HS is a chronic recurrent condition of the skin causing severe inflammation, significant pain and psychological discomfort, the purpose of this new study is to determine the effects of Nd:YAG laser in HS as a non-invasive treatment modality, with almost no downtime.

Patients' participation is extremely valuable, however, it is completely voluntary. If you decide to participate, you will be asked to complete a one-time skin examination, and assess if your insurance would cover the laser treatments. At that time, the doctors will explain the course of treatments to you, and to take pictures of the HS lesions.

Each patient will be treated on a monthly basis for a minimum of 2 months and up to 4 months - depending on patient's response to the treatment, and then 2 months of follow-up to observe the long term effect of the treatment and to detect any relapse.

Please call the Henry Ford Hospital at 313-916-6964 to sign up for a study exam.
